HISTORY

Olive Hill Community Economic Development Corporation, Inc. was incorporated in April 1998 as a nonprofit charitable and educational Community Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) organization, pursuant to Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We are pleased to continue to serve this community after 21 years.

The purpose of OHCEDC is to address the concerns of housing, employment and economic development for low-to-moderate income residents. Our organization has achieved this goal through opportunities that raise the educational, and socioeconomic status of the residents. Our next step is to help the community embrace entrepreneurship as an alternative for low-income residents to achieve economic self sufficiency.

The demographics of community residents we serve come from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds including but not limited to: minorities, disenfranchised candidates for re-entry, unemployed, as well as anyone whose income is below federal poverty guidelines. OHCEDC’s targeted area of responsibility expands into Caldwell, Catawba and McDowell Counties North Carolina. Within the confounds of this geographic range there is an obvious need for innovative economic development. Determining factors such as: the need for affordable housing, poor existing housing conditions, loss of jobs and the need for small enterprise development has contributed to this determination

The 2007-08 housing crisis allowed us to make the most impact and focus on helping hundreds of residents to save their homes from foreclosure or aid in their transition gracefully. The Americans Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 allowed for the business development sector of OHCEDC to flourish and aid in the development of 10 businesses within our community. Since then OHCEDC has used many creative strategies for sustainability. We have kept our doors open for 21 years in a sea of competition with other nonprofits for dwindling foundation and public dollars. Olive Hill CEDC will
continue to push forward into this next season seeking and securing exciting new partnerships and subsidiaries in the new year.
